ERADICATION OF TESCHEN DISEASE (TESCHOVIRUS ENCEPHALOMYELITIS) IN FORMER CZECHOSLOVAKIA Prof. MVDr

چکیده
According to international reporting on Teschen disease (Teschovirus encephalomyelitis) occurrence, the most critical situation was in the territory of former Czechoslovakia where this disease was discovered in the early 1930’s and identified by professor Dr Antonín Klobouk as a virosis initially called „encephalomyelitis enzootica suum non purulenta“. After the Second World War this infection, called also «Klobouk’s disease», was included among national priority diseases to be eradicated. This was achieved in 1973 after the elimination of the last case. The recent report on Teschovirus encephalomyelitis in francophone Haiti, i.e. in Western Hemisphere, inspired the author to present Czechoslovak experience with the control and eradication of this infection what could be for somebody useful information.

Teschen disease (previously also known as Klobouk’s disease), actually called Teschovirus encephalomyelitis, is a virulent fatal viral disease of swine, characterized by severe neurological disorders of encephalomyelitis. It was initially discovered in the Teschen district of North-Eastern Moravia. During the 1940s and 1950s it caused serious losses to the pig production industry in Europe. The...

The porcine enteroviruses (family Picornaviridae) were described as causative agents of neurological disorders known as Teschen/Talfan disease, reproductive failure, dermal lesions, enteric disease and pneumonia of swine. Recently, porcine enteroviruses were reclassified on the basis of genome sequencing data. A new Picornavirus genus named Teschovirus (formerly PEV CPE group I.) was establishe...

In February and March 2009, approximately 1,500 backyard pigs of variable age became sick, and approximately 700 of them died or were euthanized in the Lower Artibonite Valley and the Lower Plateau of the Republic of Haiti. The main clinical sign was posterior ataxia followed by paresis and/or paralysis on the second or third day of illness. No gross lesions were observed at postmortem examinat...

Teschovirus encephalomyelitis is a sporadic disease associated with Teschovirus A (PTV) serotype 1 and, less frequently, other serotypes. In recent years, the number of cases submitted to the Iowa State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory with a history of posterior paresis has increased. Submission histories from various regions of the United States suggest a trend for clinical disease...
